Injera followup
It was disgusting. More bitter than sour, too thick, too dry (presumably because I spread the batter too thickly and had to cook it too long). I ate a few bites and had to toss it. The doro wat? Pretty good, if too mild. And I have some of the mock berberé I made for it leftover. I think it’ll go great on a steak. So, not a complete loss for this round.

rsmallbone replied to your post: Wrote the first draft of a short for someone last night; it is *rough* It has nipples in it, so I’m pretty sure it deserves a Pulitzer. And the Drama Pulitzer goes to… Giant Gazongas VIII.

Wrote the first draft of a short for someone last...
I think only one line will survive intact to the second draft (unless I have to drown this baby for some reason) Hair like liquid copper cascaded over her shoulders, wisps of it demurely curling over her nipples. And hell, reading it now, I think it’s got too many velar plosives anyway. Werdz iz hard.

Oh, and by the way...
If you’re a literary critic who doesn’t recognize the pop culture and dated topical references dotting works in the canon, that speaks more to your ignorance than anything else.

pamiedotcom: This story is old enough now that I feel like I can talk about it without incriminating anyone involved, other than me, which is fine, because I’m the only one in this story who comes out looking like an asshole. We go way back to 1999 for this one, back before there were blogs, before there was Television Without Pity, when there were just online journals and the invention of...

reagank replied to your post: Shoes, people, shoes. I think a catastrophe would cause people to loot and hoard things like shoes, so they might not be plentiful, but they are a high priority. And if lots of people die that’s just more shoes for the survivors,...

Shoes, people, shoes.
I finished Oryx and Crake over the weekend and while it was good, and beautifully written, and leagues better than the last “mainstream apocalypse novel” I read - McCarthy’s vastly overrated The Road - it had the exact same fundamental flaw that kept me from immersing myself in the world. Shoes. In The Road, we’re led to believe the shoes are all gone. Perhaps that was...
